who we are
We are a multi-generational and multi-ethnic community comprised of individuals and families from all walks of life and numerous parts of the world. It is not unusual for us to have over a dozen nationalities and up to five continents represented by the people in a worship service.
Our worship services include a blend of contemporary music and classic songs, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble and active choir. The preaching is expository teaching from the Bible, and includes practical application for people in today’s busy culture and lifestyle. Our pastor uses humor, video, and drama to help you understand and apply the messages.
The purpose of Central Baptist Church is to glorify God as we carry out the Great Commission in the spirit of the great commandment.
Central Baptist Church has been active in Alameda for over 70 years. The founding members met in rented space for the first two years, before moving to the present location on Central Avenue. An existing home was converted into auditorium and classroom space. Another building was soon erected at the back of the lot. The present worship center and additional educational space were built through the years. Adjacent properties have also been purchased for staff housing, ministry space, and parking. Central Baptist is currently debt free. God has worked mightily in our past, yet we know that the greatest days of His work are still ahead!
The City of Alameda, California, is a sophisticated Bay Area island community with a small town vibe known for tree-lined streets and Victorian charm. In addition to its unusual status as an island city in the San Francisco Bay, Alameda is a residential community known for historic preservation, unique attractions highlighted by the USS Hornet Museum and historic Alameda Theatre.
The shoreline parks along the San Francisco Bay and the San Leandro Marina extend for more than six miles, offering well-kept beaches and spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline and the East Bay hills. Most of the photos on this website are of local sites and local people.
The Island of Alameda was created in 1902 when a tidal canal (the Estuary) was created joining Oakland's harbor with the San Leandro Bay.
On April 14, 2006, Alameda was designated as a "Coast Guard City," one of only 12 cities in the nation. Central Baptist is proud to have active Coast Guard service members in our church family. In August 2010, Travel and Leisure magazine announced what visitors already know: Alameda is one of America’s top ten "Coolest Suburbs Worth a Visit."
